Work For Someone or be Self Employed ?

Freedom to do what I want ..where I want..when I want and get compensated for doing it, is the dream of most everyone at sometime in their lives.

Unfortunately, for the vast majority, it's just that... A daydream. The reality is to attain this nirvana state usually necessitates a thought provoking journey. The recipe is uncomplicated enough. You need to create value and find somebody willing to pay for that value. This can be accomplished through self employment i.e. working for yourself or by being a part of a group of which you are simply be a member (ie being employed or working for someone).

In the 21st century, the thought of being self employed has become easier in one sense yet harder in another. The cornerstone of this paradigm shift is the internet and being able to do business on-line. It simply involves you to get connected with your computer from anywhere in the World, set up a blog or website and once done, you have effected a Worldwide presence. That's the good news. You now have a global presence the intriguing news is you also have world competition. A follow up questions is do you feel positive in presenting your value to the consumer by yourself? Or would it be better for you to be a part of a company or a team of other individuals.?

The key to success here is to balance your expectations and resources. You need to explore and discover the best balance and fit for you.

One central myth that needs to be immediately removed from the discussion is that if you work for yourself you don't have to report to a boss...Wrong! If you plan to be successful, you will be reporting to the toughest boss around...Yourself! And if that's not enough incentive, people who are self employed need to constantly create value and keep their customers and clients happy. On the other hand, if you're a type person who is merely looking for just a paycheck you may do better in working for someone else. Regrettably, the days of just getting by are rapidly going away. Today, we are in an economic environment in the United States where there are a number of well qualified applicants for every opportunity. This unfortunate economic condition is not just restricted to the USA. So there are very few, if any, "free rides" anywhere in the World.

So how do you go about discovering that right fit. I do not have all the answers but if nothing more there are some interesting questions you may want to contemplate and ask yourself.

The one quote which says it all is from Confucius, the noted Chinese philosopher, he said, "Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life". I don't think Confucius would disagree as to whether you can find that love in being self employed or working for someone else. It doesn't make difference as long as get up and commit your day to your love and passion. If you are not doing so. Change! It is your life and we all have only one those.
